------------------------------------------------------- About this work This was part of my solo show Assemblage at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg in 2011. I enjoyed the challenge of painting the lizard. There is something scientific in the observation of the specimen, but there is there is also the artistic element of trying to capture the essence of something living. The observable world of description intersects with the intangible world of mystery and creates a sense of enchantment. Observation goes both ways: there is the sense that the lizard is also observing us, yet without quite meeting our gaze
