------------------------------------------------------- About this work This work was first shown at the 2008 Johannesburg Art Fair, and was then part of Morphology, my solo exhibition in 2009. Apart from using fairly obvious memento mori symbolism, and addressing themes common in much of my work, this painting also examines mankind’s domination over nature. The man-made clock, with its structured segmentation of time, dominates the much smaller organic stillness of the dead bird. When we face our final hour, brought about by our unsustainable greed and complacency, other life on Earth will have already paid the price.
